McElroy Metal Opens New Manufacturing Facility in Missouri

July 26, 2018

BOSSIER CITY, La., July 25, 2018 – To meet the needs of a growing customer base, McElroy Metal opened its 13th U.S. manufacturing facility in Diamond, Mo., this summer.

I look forward to servicing customers from here,” says Billy Howell, operations manager at the new Diamond manufacturing facility. “McElroy Metal has had a service center in this location for more than a decade. We’ve cultivated an excellent customer base, so building a manufacturing facility was just a natural step to meeting the needs of that customer base.”

Diamond is located in the southwest corner of Missouri, near the borders of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas, serving the four-state area. The new manufacturing facility provides products for the post-frame industry as well as the architectural and commercial construction markets.

“Now we can better serve our customers with the capability to locally produce the quality products they’ve come to expect,” says Brian Eudy, McElroy manager at Diamond.

Metl-Span IMPs Offer Energy Efficiency and Splash of Color to Aquatics Center

July 26, 2018

LEWISVILLE, Texas, July 26, 2018 – Finding a single product that provides solutions for both aesthetics and design, as well as energy efficiency can be challenging. Insulated metal panels from Metl-Span made a splash for the construction of the Huntsville Aquatics Center in Huntsville, Ala.

The renovation at the Huntsville Aquatics Center included the addition of a 50-meter competition pool and a warm water instructional pool in addition to the Legacy Pool, which was original to the former Brahan Spring Park Natatorium. With these renovations, Huntsville now has two Olympic size pools and the largest seating capacity in the state with more than 14,000 seats. The new instructional pool provides warm water therapy at 90 degrees, an in-water bench with jets and a handicapped access ramp.

“We knew from the start that we wanted the metal panels,” says Pam Bruce, senior project architect at Nola VanPeursem Architects in Huntsville. “The metal panels came with a wide selection of colors. This allowed us to simulate the feeling of water. The competition wall panels give the feeling of racing in water between lane lines, while the arrangement of colors at the instructional pool feels more relaxing and calm.”

Bruce says the IMPs are installed over concrete masonry unit walls, so it was, “a no-brainer choice” to go with insulated metal panels. “The City of Huntsville specifically asked for an energy-efficient building,” she says. “Going with insulated metal panels helped us achieve the look we wanted, while satisfying the owner’s request for energy efficiency.

Installers had to follow a precise pattern when piecing together the insulated metal panels to achieve the unique aesthetic desired by the architect and the City of Huntsville. The sleek appearance helps assimilate the swimmer, a distinct part of the logo, smoothly moving through the water.

McElroy Metal Cor-Ten AZP Raw Helps Major Renovation of a Wisconsin Ironworking Plant

July 19, 2018

BOSSIER CITY, La., July 19, 2018 – Beloit, an industrial city along the Rock River in southeast Wisconsin, has undergone a facelift during recent years. Among the largest renovations has been at the original Beloit Corporation, which closed its doors in 1999 after more than 140 years.

The property was purchased in 2001 by ABC Supply Inc. co-founders Diane and the late Ken Hendricks, who then began redevelopment of the property. Nearly 50 different businesses occupy or plan to occupy space in the building, renamed Ironworks. To maintain the historic industrial appearance, Multi-Cor Cor-Ten AZP Raw corrugated panels from McElroy Metal were installed on exterior walls and used in a variety of interior locations as design accents. As the renovation continues, more Cor-Ten AZP Raw will be installed.

“The whole feel of the campus is for the industrial look,” says Jim Tibbetts, AAIA, project manager at Angus-Young Associates Inc. of Janesville, Wis. “During the first stages of renovation, there was still industry going on within the buildings. It was eventually phased out and it’s now dedicated to office space, retail and some restaurants.”

In addition to office space and restaurants, the Ironworks campus is home to a golf training center and several tech startups.

“We looked at several panels with Hendricks Development, but this one really captured the eye,” Tibbetts says. “It is a true rustic look. The corrugations are only 7/8 of an inch deep, so it doesn’t take a lot to back it up like a rainscreen would. Cost is also a consideration. It’s not over-the-top expensive.”

“The rusty industrial look is what they were after,” says Lindsey Hartwig, project coordinator at CCI. “The installation went just like it was supposed to on the exterior. It looks great.”

Hartwig says many of the businesses on campus have selected the Cor-Ten AZP Raw for interior design highlights … the YMCA has it wrapped around the reception desk and as part of the donor wall.

The ongoing $30 million renovation at Ironworks includes new entrances, parking and road upgrades, as well as new windows, flooring, lighting, electrical and other amenities. The original manufacturing building, with 50-foot ceilings, still stands, but has been converted to a three-story building, creating more floor and loft space.

Bloomington MN 7/11/2018: JL Industries is now offering a redesigned line of steel and aluminum roof hatches providing higher insulation value, easier installation and improved cover operation. The new Diamond™ Series is designed to reduce energy costs with R-6 polyisocyanurate insulation in both curb and cover – exceeding IECC requirements of R-5 for curbs. Insulated Metal Panels Lend Recreation Center Weather and Fire Performance

July 12, 2018

LEWISVILLE, Texas, July 12, 2018 – The new Lander County Recreation Center, also known as “BM Rec” to area residents, provides a daily splash of energy and enthusiasm to the quiet mining community of Battle Mountain, Nev. Featuring bold, ribbed insulated metal panels, single-skin rainscreen panels and a standing seam roofing system, the project showcases a comprehensive metal building envelope and the best in performance and aesthetics offered by NCI Building Systems Inc. Designed by VanWoert Bigotti Architects, the Lander County Recreation Center strikes the perfect balance between industrial and commercial architecture. The project pairs a steel frame system by Star Building Systems with over 50,000 square feet of metal panels by Metl-Span and MBCI.

Metl-Span insulated metal panels make up the bulk of the project’s high-performance metal exterior, providing thermal and moisture performance in a single, easy-to-install component. Designers blended 16,997 square feet of the ribbed 7.2 Insul-Rib profile with 4,595 square feet of lightly-corrugated CF Mesa panels for dramatic wall relief. Specified in both Charcoal Gray and Igloo White, the insulated metal panels provide exceptional aesthetic versatility. While the 3-inch insulated metal panels boast an exceptional R-value of 23.58, the project team was equally impressed with the product’s unique, single-component construction. The ease of installation creates a weathertight building envelope after just one pass, creating efficiencies throughout the construction process.

Designers accented the ribbed insulated metal panels in Charcoal Gray with a custom green single-skin metal panel from MBCI that provides aesthetic harmony with interior design and signage elements. The bold green exterior also serves as the project’s aesthetic focal point, drawing attention to the street-facing entrance.

The project also incorporates fire-rated ThermalSafe insulated metal panels, featured solely on a storage facility on the eastern side of the building’s perimeter. While not part of the initial design, Lander County Recreation Center representatives requested additional storage space to meet the needs of its growing suite of programs and activities. Measuring approximately 600 square feet, the new addition “called for a firewall because of its proximity to a nearby school to meet codes,” Rogers said. The team from VanWoert Bigotti did not hesitate to specify Metl-Span ThermalSafe panels.

ThermalSafe mineral wool panels combine exceptional fire-resistance with the thermal and moisture performance that can be expected from Metl-Span insulated metal panels. The product’s unique LockGuard interlocking side joint further enhances the fire-resistant performance of the panel with its tongue-and-groove engagement of the mineral wool core. The fire-rated panel also offers excellent structural characteristics and span capability.

The Lander County Recreation Center incorporates 972 square feet of 24-gauge, 4-inch ThermalSafe insulated metal panels with a Light Mesa profile and matching Charcoal Gray hue.

To complete the all-metal building envelope, VanWoert Bigotti Architects specified 22,853 square feet of 24-gauge CFR insulated metal standing seam roof panels. Featuring 2-inch standing seams with the lightly-corrugated Mesa profile, the CFR panels are exposed on the interior for smooth sightlines and a modern aesthetic appearance.

The product combines durable exterior and interior faces of Galvalume steel with Metl-Span’s unmatched polyurethane insulating core. Factory-cut panel ends and factory notching eliminate field work and erection costs, while weathertight vertical side seaming leads to additional installation efficiencies.

Battle Mountain residents celebrated the grand opening of the new Lander County Recreation Center with two days of free admission in July 2017.
