BSD SpecLink(R) Data to Provide Manufacturer Lead Service

March 29, 2006

ATLANTA, March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Building Systems Design (BSD) announced today the launch of a new lead service for building product manufacturers. Available by subscription, this lead service provides manufacturers with specific project information about how particular specification sections in the BSD SpecLink product are being used nationwide, including which manufacturers have been specified on each project. The new service is in addition to an existing quarterly statistical report that has been available to participating manufacturers for several years. BSD gathers data automatically from the computers of SpecLink subscribers that enable the company to compile reports on the frequency of use of specific sections and the number of times particular manufacturers have been specified. The original statistical data does not identify particular users or projects, so it is of interest primarily as a trend indicator and a tool to determine the relative popularity of specific products. BSD also uses this data to help determine which sections should receive more maintenance attention. With the current spring release of BSD SpecLink, architecture and engineering customers have the option to release specific project information to BSD for use in the new, more detailed lead service, which provides monthly reports to participating manufacturers that are organized by specification section, state, architect/engineer, and project. Data for these more detailed reports is provided voluntarily by SpecLink users, and the type of information gathered includes: project name and location; owner's name; and facility type, size, approximate cost, and approximate completion date. To encourage users to provide this data, the software includes the same information on optional cover sheets for the administrative reports that are automatically generated by the specification system for use during the construction phase of a project.
