Whirlpool Corporation Appointed to Consensus Committee for National Green Building Standard

Committee to Create a New, Uniform Green Building Standard for Residential Construction Practices BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (May 15, 2007) Whirlpool Corporation has been selected as the only appliance manufacturer of the Consensus Committee for the National Green Building Standard(TM). As part of the committee, Whirlpool Corporation will help transform the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Model Green Home Building Guidelines into a national green standard, certified by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Omer Butch Gaudette, director of trade relations for Whirlpool Corporation, will represent the company on the Consensus Committee as a member of the Water Efficiency and Indoor Environmental Air Quality task group. Members were appointed by the NAHB Research Center Executive Standards Committee and include more than 40 representatives from a broad spectrum of the building industry, sustainability organizations and the public sector. NAHBs Model Green Home Building Guidelines are a set of voluntary guidelines that outline fundamental ways to build more environmentally appropriate and healthier homes. Earlier this year, NAHB announced that it would join forces with the International Codes Council (ICC) to take these guidelines through the ANSI process, and also promote a national green building standard designed to help combat the effects of greenhouse gases. Its a privilege for Whirlpool Corporation to serve on the Consensus Committee as it further helps Whirlpool and the building industry make a sustainable difference.
