No-Burn® Accepted for Use within the Building Codes of San Antonio, Texas

August 08, 2008

No-Burn® Plus™ has been selected by the City of San Antonio, Texas as a means of reducing the risk that a fire will spread from one home to the next in communities where homes are built close to the property line. This has become an increasing concern on the part of community planners, residential developers, homebuilders, homeowners and other stakeholder groups as the prevalence of “zero lot line” communities have expanded throughout the U.S. in the recent past. “In essence, this code creates an environment where the risk of fire spreading from unit to unit such as we have seen in our area of Texas as well as in many other metro areas throughout the U.S. will be dramatically reduced,” stated Albert Hernandez, Principle of No-Burn® of Bexar County. The focus for this new code acceptance is the soffit assembly – the area of a home near the roof line that extends beyond the exterior wall. The approved assembly, pursuant to the requirements of the 2006 International Residential Code, and applicable to homes built 5 feet or closer to the property line, is as follows: • Layer of 5/8th Type X Gypsum Board • Layer of Fiber Cement siding (e.g. Hardiplank or other) • No-Burn Plus Primer • Weatherproofing Top Coat Sealer “We are very pleased by this development,” said Bill Kish, President of No-Burn® Incorporated, “it is work being done like this by Mr. Hernandez, other members of No-Burn®’s nationwide Dealership network, and by decision-makers in the San Antonio building department, that will allow No-Burn® products to be part of the proactive effort necessary to save lives, reduce property damage and enhance the safety of communities throughout the United States and other parts of the world.” No-Burn®, Inc. has been leading the way in the field of fire retardant technology since 1998. By removing the fuel a fire needs to burn, these products dramatically reduce the possibility of a fire ever starting when applied over substrates such as wood, drywall, fabric, carpet, furniture, fiber-reinforced plastic and many other materials. Equally important, No-Burn® can reduce toxic smoke by as much as 80 percent. All No-Burn® products carry a “Class A” rating and are completely non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. Several No-Burn products also offer a dual level of protection, reducing the risk of fire and inhibiting the growth of toxic-black mold. All No-Burn® products are available exclusively through a network of dealers, certified for professional application.
