Pest Management Industry Pleased to Provide First National Resource for Household Hazardous Waste Disposal. FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Whether from a clogged drain, a patch of crabgrass in the yard, or quick paint touch ups, homeowners tend to accumulate bottles of expired, half-used do-it-yourself products, and homemade remedies – also known as Hazardous Household Waste (HHW). HHW cannot simply be poured down a drain or thrown away in the weekly trash; doing so can contaminate water and soil while also creating potential landfill buildup and pollution. With an increasing desire to act environmentally responsible, homeowners seeking information on the proper disposal of HHW were lacking a central resource – until now. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) developed an interactive Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Map on its consumer education web site, Pestworld.org. By clicking on the state in which they live (or simply using the drop-down menu), homeowners can find the correct department within their state that addresses HHW as well as current contact information for that department. Eventually, this web site will allow homeowners to ascertain county level information regarding HHW Disposal. This newly developed section further provides a comprehensive list of HHW items that need to be specially disposed of by homeowners.
