IFAW Headquarters Named Top Green Building

April 20, 2009

YARMOUTH PORT, Mass., April 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and its Committee on the Environment selected IFAW's (the International Fund for Animal Welfare) headquarters building as one of the 2009 top ten examples of sustainable architecture and green design. The award will be given to IFAW and Boston-based designLAB architects at the AIA National Convention and Design Exposition in San Francisco later this month. "We are honored to receive AIA's top ten green award," said IFAW President Fred O'Regan. "Our international headquarters is a platform for our campaigns around the world. The green design reflects our commitment to protect animals, their habitats and the environment." The 2009 COTE Top Ten Green Projects program celebrates projects that are the result of a thoroughly integrated approach to architecture, natural systems and technology. They make a positive contribution to their communities, improve comfort for building occupants and reduce environmental impacts through strategies such as reuse of existing structures, connection to transit systems, low-impact and regenerative site development, energy and water conservation, use of sustainable or renewable construction materials and design that improves indoor air quality. "We are delighted to see IFAW recognized for their commitment to a sustainable headquarters," said designLAB architect Robert Miklos. "It was a pleasure to collaborate with them to invent a special workplace which reflects the personality, mission and purpose of this dynamic organization."
