Company's commitment to sustainability considered key to protecting environment HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Renaissance Lighting, a leading innovator in the development and manufacture of energy-efficient, ultra long-life solid-state luminaires, has established an industry-leading recycling program designed to keep Renaissance Lighting products out of the nation's landfills. This latest move marks another milestone in a series of Green initiatives by the company, which was selected recently to the 2009 GoingGreen East 50 Top Private Company List in recognition of its ground-breaking energy efficiency and energy management technologies, "elegant product design, overall market potential and its compelling, highly energy-efficient family of LED lighting fixtures." In addition to being 80 percent more energy-efficient than incandescent lamps and 30 percent more efficient than compact fluorescent lamps, Renaissance Lighting luminaires are now nearly 100 percent recyclable. This means that virtually all of the luminaire – from its reflector to mounting frame to LED light engine – can be recycled. Luminaires once destined for disposal in landfills will return instead to Renaissance lighting for a binning process and subsequently shipped to Potomac Metals Inc., a privately held independent scrap metal recycling company based in Sterling, VA.
