Merritt Properties Recognized for Diverse Projects - USGBC and ABC Cite Developer for Exterior and Interior Work

March 04, 2010

BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Maryland Chapter, named Merritt Properties’ Schilling Green the 2009 Green Project of the Year for Core and Shell. The Baltimore Chapter of the Associated Builders & Contractors gave the developer a Merit Award for another project, the interior fit-out for the corporate offices of Firaxis Games. Schilling Green is a Class A office building located at 230 Schilling Circle in Hunt Valley. As part of its long-standing commitment to environmentally responsible construction, Merritt undertook a major redevelopment of the building in 2008, resulting in a registered LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) project pursuing Platinum certification – the first of its kind along the I-83 corridor. LEED is the industry standard for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Firaxis Games is a leading game developer originally headquartered in Hunt Valley. For their new corporate offices in Sparks, the company wanted space that reflected a culture based on imagination and play and included asymmetrical walls and spaces, floating ceilings, hand-crafted oversized doors, fitness studio and employee break room with kitchen, seating and gaming area. The project, at 10 Loveton Circle in Sparks, was built out by Merritt and designed by Arris, a Design Studio. A challenging demolition and construction project, involving simultaneous exterior and interior work and a quick turnaround, was completed on time and on budget in September 2009.
