Holcim (US) to Present, Exhibit and Receive Industry Award at World of Concrete Trade Show

WALTHAM, Mass., Jan. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Holcim (US) Inc. will be recognized as an industry leader at this month's World of Concrete (WOC) trade show held in Las Vegas, Nevada with the distinction of presenting, exhibiting and receiving an award for innovative research and product development. A variety of events at WOC will highlight Holcim's advancements in quality and sustainability strategy. Steve Morrical, senior technical service engineer, will be recognized by Concrete Construction Magazine as one of the Most Influential People of the Year. Morrical's role on ACI committee 306 "Cold Weather Concreting" was integral to producing the guide, the first update in over twenty years. The guide provides contractors, engineers and suppliers with information pertaining to the proper methods of placing and protecting concrete in cold weather environments, as well as the most current information on in-place testing methods and cold weather admixture systems. Tim Cost, senior technical service engineer at Holcim (US) will share his expertise in concrete incompatibilities and related testing in a new World of Concrete Education Program. The seminar will highlight simple testing and resolution processes for dealing with this common source of concrete performance issues. Morrical will receive his award Tuesday, January 24, at 4:00 p.m in the Concrete Surfaces & Decorative Pavilion. Cost's presentation "Incompatibility of Concrete Materials – Evaluation, Resolution, and Related Testing" is on Thursday, January 26, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., room N119, in the North Hall. WOC attendees visiting the Holcim (US) booth will also be the first to see Holcim's new Forecasting application supported by Android, Apple iOs, Windows 7 Mobile and certain BlackBerry devices through web browsers. The application offers a GPS location feature and four-day forecast and favorability conditions for pouring concrete. The forecast factors in the weather conditions and dryness factor with concrete data to provide users with quantifiable and easily shared information. This application will be provided free of charge.
