AkzoNobel Launches North America Science Award in Collaboration with the American Chemical Society

--Online Nominations Period Open From March 28, 2012 – June 22, 2012-- CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AkzoNobel, in collaboration with the American Chemical Society (ACS), today launched a major new North American science award to recognize the vital role that scientists play in advancing chemistry and material sciences research with proven or potential significant societal or user benefits. The new biennial AkzoNobel North America Science Award recognizes outstanding scientific contributions guided by the principles and practices of sustainable chemistry by a researcher in the United States or Canada. Awarded in April 2013, the AkzoNobel North America Science Award winner will receive a $75,000 cash award from the company. AkzoNobel, the largest global paints and coating company and a major producer of specialty chemicals, and ACS, the world’s largest scientific society, are working together to recognize the people who help to create a more sustainable future through scientific research. While AkzoNobel is providing the scientific scope, nomination guidelines and funding for the award program, the ACS is independently managing the nomination process and recipient selection to establish independent integrity for the award. The award winner will be announced in February 2013, and honored during a special presentation at the ACS’s 245th National Meeting & Exposition, April 7-11, 2013 in New Orleans.
