Accoya®: An Innovation in Wood

Accoya® wood, manufactured in Kingsport, TN, and Arnhem, The Netherlands, is a durable, stable, and sustainable wood that has been continuously produced by Accsys since 2007 and is distributed in over 60 countries around the world. A revolutionary scientific process called acetylation modifies wood to give it properties above and beyond the best hardwoods—and, in many cases, aluminum and PVC.

Wood Acetylation

Acetylation is an exact scientific process that increases the amount of acetyl molecules in wood, thereby changing its physical properties. The process protects wood from rot without using toxins by making it unable to hold moisture in the cell wall and inedible to most microorganisms and fungi. It also greatly reduces the wood’s tendency to swell and shrink, resulting in a longer maintenance cycle.

Accoya opens up new opportunities, including windows, doors, decking, cladding, gates, garage doors, and other endless exterior architectural millwork possibilities. It is warranted for 50 years in above-ground applications and 25 years in applications that call for ground contact and even salt water spray exposure.
