Legalett is a pre-engineered system composed of radiant heat and a GEO-Slab. Legalett’s heating system is a closed loop, warm air radiant floor system, engineered for simplicity and convenience. By using air as a radiant heating medium instead of water, the possibility of callbacks from damaging floods, due to water leaks or possible environmental disasters from glycol spillage are eliminated. Legalett also eliminates the complicated manifold assemblies that owners of hydronic (water-based) radiant floor systems often find difficult to operate and control.
Legalett’s heating system is generally installed in a GEO-Slab (frost protected shallow foundation that structurally behaves as a modified raft foundation). A GEO-Slab has many advantages including the ability to build on poor soils, permafrost, and expansive soils. Mature trees and vegetation can be left untouched, as the GEO-Slab has no effect on the water table, and is built on (rather than in) the ground. Legalett’s GEO-Slab design can easily accommodate curbless showers and access ramps for the disabled.
Complete shop drawings with detailed cut lists and installation instructions are provided on a site specific basis resulting in a short installation learning curve and simplified construction process. This also results in a precise material list eliminating waste which would otherwise be sent to recycling or landfill sites. Materials used include plastic or metal pipe, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), reinforcing steel and concrete which are all recyclable, and in most cases 99.5% of the materials used on site are shipped within 500 miles of the project all of which make Legalett a LEED compatible solution.
