Curved elements, such as walls, ceilings, columns, soffits, light covers, clouds, and arches have often been used to add interest to architectural designs. This course outlines conventional methods of framing curves in wood and steel, as well as new methods of framing using flexible track systems. Discussions include options for wall coverings and trims for curved surfaces.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Explain and compare the conventional methods and new methods of framing curves with respect to aesthetics and costs of the resulting walls and ceiling features.
  • Describe the design and safe and proper construction of curved walls and ceiling features using flexible framing systems.
  • List the types of flexible framing systems available and identify the appropriate framing techniques based on aesthetics, curve radius, and strength, among other qualifiers.
  • Identify associated materials for finishing curved walls and ceiling features.

Approximately 1 hour. Delivered online, at your own pace.
