Thermoplastic single-ply roofing systems have over a half century of proven performance. This course outlines their history and the various types of membranes that have been developed and identifies the individual attributes and benefits of each type. This highly illustrated course also discusses the cooling benefits of white and green roofs, the numerous single-ply attachment and warranty options, and descriptions of sample installations.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Recall the attributes of different thermoplastic single-ply membrane types when selecting roofing membranes.
- Specify the correct attachment techniques for thermoplastic membranes.
- Improve the energy performance of buildings with thermoplastic cool roof systems.

Background: John L. Doyle started his career in the roofing industry in 1980 in the manufacturing of thermoplastic single-ply membranes. In 1983, he moved to technical sales of roofing systems. Flex Membrane International Corp. was formed to manufacture and sell thermoplastic single-ply roofing systems. In 1990, John was the company's national sales manager; he then became president in 1995.
