Concrete Masonry and Energy Codes: Latest Developments

This course covers the wall assembly thermal performance requirements of current energy codes (both the 2009 and 2012 versions of the IECC are covered). In addition, the course discusses the alternative compliance paths that are available for masonry walls under IECC and ASHRAE, including the use of COMcheck software, and provides an introduction to the basic concepts and terms that are used with respect to thermal performance. Finally the course covers how masonry wall assemblies may contribute credits under LEED.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Participants will learn compliance options with Concrete Masonry under the IECC and ASHRAE Energy Codes and Standards
  • Participants will learn the terminology and methods for evaluating concrete masonry's Energy Code compliance.
  • Participants will analyze current Energy Code requirements for single wythe concrete masonry walls, including the significantly changed requirements in the most recent three versions of the Energy Code.
  • Participants will learn the available LEED project credits related to the use of concrete masonry
