Prioritizing Performance for the Building Enclosure

This course is designed to help the commercial building team understand how to best use new products introduced into the market for building enclosures. These innovative products and systems assist in combining multiple steps of a traditional commercial exterior assembly, such as: structure, fire, water, air, thermal, vapor, and acoustic control layers into one or fewer steps. We will review various hybridized sheathing solutions and show how the integration of advanced technology has improved performance, capability, and sustainability.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Identify the aspects of building enclosure performance including but not limited to Safety (Fire), Occupant Comfort & Risk Mitigation (Water, Air, Thermal, Vapor, & Acoustic), Contribution (Fit & Aesthetic), and Financial (Schedule & Budget).
  • Discuss opportunity to prioritize performance attributes to clearly define and achieve team and project specific success.
  • Discuss opportunities to achieve and exceed project performance expectations with Manufacturer Support, Design Feedback, and Field QA/QC Procedures.
  • Understand building enclosure field performance and potential performance verification testing as needed.
