Noise Control in Large Commercial Spaces: Acoustic Design Strategies for a Better Occupant Experience

Noise Control in Large Commercial Spaces: Acoustic Design Strategies for a Better Occupant Experience

This course introduces the basics of acoustics in large commercial spaces. It explains how noise and reverberation affect comfort, communication, concentration, and safety across a range of high-occupancy environments. These include fulfillment centers, large offices, stadiums, hospitality venues, museums, educational settings, and similar interiors. Participants will review practical design strategies for improving acoustic comfort, speech intelligibility, and safety. The course also covers key material considerations such as acoustic properties, fire resistance, durability, and maintenance.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Identify common sources of noise and reverberation in large commercial spaces.
  • Explain how acoustic conditions affect comfort, communication, concentration, safety, and occupant experience.
  • Compare acoustic treatment strategies and material categories used to improve room acoustics in large commercial interiors.
  • Evaluate how acoustic properties, fire resistance, durability, and maintenance can inform design decisions.
