Underlayment is an integral part of roof system design, so it’s vitally important to understand how underlayment interacts with the specified roof covering material. This course will take a holistic view of roof systems and explore the different categories of underlayment, as well as options that can optimize performance and compatibility with roofing materials. It will also explore performance attributes of different underlayment categories and how superior products can increase energy efficiency, wind resistance, and fire resistance.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

• Examine a holistic approach to roof system design and the critical role of underlayment in that system.
• Understand roof material covering types and how to specify an appropriate underlayment that is compatible, offers a similar level of durability, and optimizes performance.
• Explore the various categories of underlayment and performance attributes of each.
• Describe the advantages of premium underlayment products, including improved energy efficiency and fire resistance, as well as important components necessary to install a high-performance roof system.
