Drinking Water as a Sustainability Issue

Drinking Water as a Sustainability Issue

This course explores drinking water as a sustainability issue, focusing on its impact on human health, environmental stewardship, and sustainable building practices. Participants will examine the three primary water delivery methods—tap, bottled, and filtered water—along with the environmental and health challenges of each. The program emphasizes how high-performance water filtration systems and multifunctional taps can improve drinking water quality, reduce reliance on bottled water, and support LEED® v5 and WELL™ v2 certification requirements.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Assess sustainability variables involved in water delivery and filtration systems, including the role of Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for LEED® v5 projects.
  • Identify drinking water contaminants (e.g., lead, PFAS, microplastics) and explain how advanced filtration technologies mitigate health risks in alignment with WELL™ v2 thresholds.
  • Evaluate environmental and health impacts associated with bottled and municipal tap water to make informed, sustainable design choices.
  • Describe the benefits of multifunctional taps with integrated three-in-one filtration and explain how they support WELL™ v2 and LEED® v5 credit requirements while promoting healthy hydration.
