Financial Management for Non-Financial Leaders (
Financial management is not separate from architectural practice. It directly influences how projects are staffed, scoped, and delivered. Decisions about fees, budgets, and cash flow shape the resources available to design teams and the level of care that can be applied throughout a project’s lifecycle. This session is designed for architects in leadership roles who are responsible for both design outcomes and firm performance. Led by Mark Zweig, the program focuses on the financial principles that affect project delivery, quality, and long-term firm stability. Rather than focusing on accounting theory, the session connects financial data to real project decisions, including staffing levels, scope management, and the timing of work. Participants will learn how to interpret financial statements in the context of architectural practice, evaluate project profitability alongside firm performance, and assess cash flow and work-in-progress to identify risk early. These insights support more consistent project delivery, reduce the likelihood of under-resourced work, and strengthen the architect’s ability to meet professional obligations. Architects who attend will gain practical knowledge to make more informed decisions about project planning, resource allocation, and firm operations, improving both financial performance and the quality and reliability of the work delivered to clients and the public.
