This course explores the evolution of modern electric fireplaces, focusing on relevant technologies, design parameters, and impact on occupant well-being and safety. The course highlights how electric fireplaces compare to gas and wood options, their functionality, and how to select appropriate models, layouts, and accessories to meet aesthetic and performance requirements in residential projects.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Discuss the health, safety, and welfare benefits of electric fireplaces compared to gas and wood-burning options, including emissions, venting, and user safety considerations.
  • Identify the primary electric fireplace flame technologies (rotisserie, LCD, water vapor, and holographic) and assess their impacts on maintenance, energy use, and installation suitability.
  • Summarize the key safety considerations for the installation and operation of electric fireplaces.
  • Review selection parameters for electric fireplaces, including various types, configurations, and accessories based on project constraints, occupant needs, climate considerations, and design intent.
