This course will teach the end user about corrosion, the causes and effects of it on the look, function, and lifespan of a door. It also provides an overview on how design and material choices can help offset the negative effect of corrosion and create a long lasting, functional entryway and exit.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Review common door application that create environments which can be highly corrosive to doors.
  • Appreciate the corrosive agents unique to these applications and their effects upon materials commonly used in the fabrication of doors.
  • Understand the causes and types of corrosion that are relevant to door materials and the methods used to increase corrosion resistance.
  • Understand the relationship between door design and fabrication methods and corrosion resistance.
  • Review selection criteria for specifying doors for corrosive locations.
