Cedar Valley announces the approval and listing of their new “California Stack” shingle panel line

Cedar Valley, the leader in handcrafted shingle siding announces the approval and listing of our new “California Stack” shingle panel line by the California State Fire Marshal. This line of western red cedar shingle siding panels have passed the SFM test standards as outlined by 12-7A-1 & are listed in the California WUI Compliance Products Handbook. In independent testing by Western Fire Center, the California Stack panel system passed fire tests over a 7/16 OSB sheathing for siding applications. Based on “worst case” testing, all exposures above 4.25 are approved for use. Whirlpool Corporation Expands On-Staff NKBA Certified Design Team to Support Design Community

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (October 13, 2008) Whirlpool Corporations dedicated program for building and design professionals, The Inside Advantage(TM), announces that Andrea Hutchins, AIA, and Dan Page-Wood, Associate AIA, have earned Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer (AKBD) credentials from the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA). With the accomplishments of Hutchins and Page-Wood, Whirlpool Corporation is the only appliance manufacturer with an on-staff NKBA certified design and marketing team. Hugh Lofting Timber Framing, Inc. earns Silver Certification from the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes program

Hugh Lofting Timber Framing, Inc and HJL Construction Management Services, LLC are pleased to announce that the Topel Residence has earned Silver Certification from the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes program. Constructed in 2007-2008, the home is the first LEED for Homes certified residence in Chester County, PA. The home was also awarded Energy Star home certification with a HERS (Home Energy Rating System) rating of 51, a full 34 points below the Energy Star target threshold. The Topel Residence is a hybrid construction bringing together timber framing with Structural Insulated Panels to form a framework that rests on a Superior Wall foundation. Built almost entirely off-site, little waste was generated during construction. The focus of the design and construction team was to reduce the home’s impact on the environment by sourcing materials locally and with high recycled content, minimizing site disturbance, installing energy and water efficient systems and appliances, installing native plant landscaping and implementing innovative green building techniques that include installing a sedum planted roof, natural ventilation and rain gardens for on-site stormwater recharge. The design team included: Matthew Moger from Lyman Perry Architects, Jonathan Alderson from Jonathan Alderson Landscape Architects, Tad Radzinski from Sustainable Solutions Corporation and Hugh Lofting and Amy Cornelius from Hugh Lofting Timber Framing, Inc and HJL Construction Management Services, LLC. “We are very proud of this achievement and of all of the members of the construction team.” says Hugh Lofting, “Ave and Vicki Topel are wonderful clients that weren’t too sure about green construction at first but became increasingly interested and knowledgeable as the design and construction of their home proceeded.
