The Office of the State Building Commissioner, OSBC employees ensure public safety by inspecting and certifying Indiana's elevators and amusement rides, boiler and pressure vessels and newly constructed buildings. The building commissioner's staff also writes new building codes as well as amends existing codes. Additionally, to help their colleagues in the building professions stay current in code developments, OSBC code experts present numerous educational seminars. And, they advocate and encourage building code enforcement by local entities of government who share a responsibility for enforcement of the rules of the Indiana Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission.
