Interactive walking tour, with audio headset & safety eyewear (as required), through an LED light fixture
manufacturing facility. From raw materials to finished luminaires, multiple stages of a vertically integrated
process are demonstrated and explained, with real-time questions allowed, along with follow-up discussion
upon completion of the tour. Engineering department and multi-stage manufacturing plant departments to be
visited include:
• Engineering Department – New Product Development: Market insights, advancements in
technology, experience, and creative synergy, inspire new ideas, which all undergo a tried-n-true
concurrent-development process, involving all departments.
• Engineering Department – Design Tools: Components are designed using powerful 3D-modeling
software. 3D-printed prototypes and samples made in our Machine Shop are evaluated for aesthetic
form, physical-fit, part-mating, mechanical details, safety, and lighting performance.
• Engineering Department - Heat Test Lab: To verify compliance with national standards for thermal
characteristics of luminaires in typical mounting conditions, in a temperature-controlled setting.
• Engineering Department - Photometric Test Lab: To test and document the photometric
performance and lighting (wavelength) characteristics of a luminaire. Typical report includes: Candela
distribution curve, luminaire lumens, zonal lumens, luminaire watts, coefficients of utilization,
spacing criteria, and Unified Glare Rating (UGR).
• Laser Department: State-of-the-Art, computer controlled, Laser Machines to cut raw material into
precise, flat shapes, with minimal waste and maximum number of parts per sheet.
• Tool & Die Department: This department takes care of CNC programmed machining for standard
product parts, as well as custom, on-the-fly parts. Many large companies sub these jobs out, but in
this factory, it is all done in-house, which helps maintain quality control and minimizes lead times. All
custom LED luminaires flow through this department.
• Fabrication Department - Metal Spinning/Welding/Press operations: Factory-tooled, hand spun
aluminum reflectors require great skill, strength, and experience to mass-produce. When combined
with additional parts formed via press-break, bending, rolling, or welding operations, the result is a
well-crafted luminaire chassis.
