Background
Robert Simeone is a forester with 35 years of international experience in sustainable management of natural forests and their relationship with local communities. Over the past two decades, he has been actively engaged in defining global sustainable forestry certification issues, is widely published and is a frequent speaker on the subject. A co-founder of the Forest Stewardship Council (see http://www.fsc.org/), he has participated as lead consultant on numerous FSC-certification assessments in tropical and temperate America. He has also taken a lead role in several FSC silvicultural working groups, involving complex multiple stakeholder consultations, and led the development of regional guidelines for sustainable forest management in both temperate and tropical America.
Robert Simeone is a specialist in South American timber species, and product development that maximizes specific FSC natural forest resources and the successful placement of these products into the marketplace.
Since 1997, Robert Simeone has acted as the Commercial Director for CIMAL/IMR, Ltda of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, the largest forest industrial group in Bolivia with over 1 million hectares of FSC certified tropical forest under management, and 2,500 employees. Under his leadership and management of 25 professionals, CIMAL/IMR, Ltda generated sales of FSC certified forest products from Bolivia to the UK, Europe, and USA markets totaling more than US$80 million in FOB value between 1998-2008.
In 1987, Robert Simeone founded Sylvania Forestry, LLC, a forestry consulting firm based in Northern Wisconsin.
Since 1994, Sylvania Forestry has provided specialized forest products development and marketing expertise to FSC certified forest producers in Bolivia.
