Whirlpool Brand Introduces Aspen Green Duet(R) Steam Pair

October 31, 2007

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (October 30, 2007) – Whirlpool brand, developer of the country’s best-selling front-load pair, introduces the next level of technology and thought leadership for laundry. The Whirlpool(R) Aspen Green Duet(R) Steam pair offers a dual steam solution, and even more insight and efficiency in a crisp new green package. “As an appliance innovator, Whirlpool brand is proud to introduce this new technology and help consumers use steam to get more done in the washer and dryer,” said John Alexander, VP and GM Brand Management, Whirlpool Corporation. “When we launched the original Duet pair, we changed the way people thought and felt about their laundry room. Given the affordable new technology and design of this pair, the potential is there to do it all over again.” Unlike other steam appliances that require manual filling, the dryer uses the washer’s water line to spray a fine mist on clothes, and the pair’s steam technology can be activated at the touch of a button. In addition, the washer is equipped with a six-point suspension system to reduce vibration and noise, allowing homeowners to install the pair closer to the living space or on an upper floor. Next Generation Cleaning The new Duet(R) Steam washer effortlessly removes stains from grass to grease, even sanitizing towels and sheets without the need for bleach. Furthermore, homeowners believe in the power of OxiClean(R) stain fighter, which now ranks as the No. 1 stain remover brand on the market*. A special timed-release dispenser option – a first for Whirlpool brand – optimizes the delivery of OxiClean(R) stain fighters. Addressing yet another homeowner need, the Duet Steam washer continues the legacy of eco-efficiency. The brand’s most energy efficient washer to date uses up to 73 percent less water and 77 percent less energy as compared to conventional top-loaders. And, the washer’s sanitization cycle designed to eliminate 99.9 percent of infectious bacteria. Next Generation Drying The advent of the Duet(R) Steam pair continues the cadence of innovation that began with the steam-enabled Fabric Freshener in 2005. Like its predecessor, the pair eases the laundry burden with immersive steam – a combination of mist and heat in the dryer – naturally steaming away tough odors and wrinkles without chemicals. With its Quick Refresh and Wrinkle Shield cycles, the Duet® Steam dryer offers a short-cut to ironing and odor removal, ensuring clothing comes out refreshed and dry. With 75 percent of clothes being dry-cleaned to remove wrinkles and odors – not stains, steam technology can reduce dry cleaning and save consumers time and money. In addition, consumers can now sanitize items such as stuffed animals, towels, bedding, and sleeping bags, an added benefit with the Sanitize cycle, which is designed to eliminate 99.9 percent of infectious bacteria. Next Generation Color In an industry bursting with color, Whirlpool brand’s crisp Aspen green is the first of a vibrant color palette rolled out over the laundry family. With 55 percent of laundry rooms on the first floor and 12 percent on the second floor**, laundry rooms continue to migrate out of the basement into the living areas of the home. Design trends continue to evolve and customization in homes including paints, fabrics, furniture, flooring and more calls for stylish and functional appliances that make a bold statement. Whirlpool color experts say a nature-inspired palette is exactly what homeowners are looking for. Marmomacc 2007: A Business and Design Success

October 29, 2007

(Verona, Italy – October 29, 2007) – The importance of Marmomacc to the world of stone was demonstrated by this year’s “Marmomacc Meets Design” initiative, which paired leading international designers with 10 Italian stone processors. The pairings focused on the “lightness” of stone in developing objects, such as lamps, and entire booth designs. Three of the booths featuring these designs shared the first Marmomacc Best Communicator Award, presented to the booths with the best visual approaches to conveying the richness of stone. The winners: -Il Casone for Kengo Kuma’s booth design; -Grassi Pietre for its booth, designed by Aldo Cibic; and -PibaMarmi for Michele de Lucchi’s marble lamps over miniature stone structures. Kuma, Cibic, Denis Santachiara, Tobia Scarpa, and Riccardo Blumer are among the designers involved with this project who were also present at Marmomacc. They were joined by a number of architects who received awards for the 10th Edition of The International Architecture In Stone Award (please see our press release of June 4, 2007, or email us for a copy), including Jensen & Skodvin, Paulo David, Antonio Jiménez Torrecillas and Beniamino Servino, at a ceremony held at Verona’s unique Castelvecchio Musem. This event was also attended by architects – including Angela Garcia de Paredes and Ignacio Garcia Pedrosa, as well as Ignacio Fernandez Solla -- whose works were featured in the New Stone Architecture In Spain exhibition, which highlighted major stone projects of the last 10 years. Marmomacc attracts architects not only thanks to its commitment to promoting stone-related design, but also because it is the best place to learn about the technological innovations shaping the manipulation of stone. An outstanding example of this to come out of Marmomacc 2007 is the Grein group’s “Stone Foil,” a stone material so malleable – it has a thickness of just 2/10 of a millimeter – that it is ideal for non-flat surfaces. Grein created a series of motorcycle helmets with an outer layer in granite as an example of what becomes possible thanks to this increased flexibility (the helmet is available in 15 types of granite): Marmomacc 2007 also hosted the ninth edition of its continuing education course for architects. Thirty architects from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., India, South Africa and Australia spent four days studying the importance of stone in modern design. Participants visited quarries in Lessinia, Palladio’s Villa “La Torre” and even Bertani’s 18th century Villa Novare winery. Nearly half of the more than 65,000 stone-sector professionals who attended Marmomacc were foreign visitors, representing 110 countries. This 6 % increase in foreign visitors to more than 26,000 demonstrates Marmomacc’s global importance and why the show has become the annual meeting point for the stone sector. Over 1,500 companies from 50 countries exhibited stone materials and technologies, making Marmomacc the ideal venue to see the best that the world of stone has to offer. The tentative dates for Marmomacc 2008 are October 2nd-5th. Maytag Brand Dishwashers with New “SteamClean” Option Remove Stubborn Residue from Glassware, Dishes

October 02, 2007

Powerful Dishwashers Deliver Dependable Cleaning Performance Through Steam BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (September 28, 2007) – Maytag brand dishwashers now feature an industry-leading SteamClean option to get glassware clean the first time, every time. Thanks to this high-heat option, the dishwashers remove even the most stubborn residue and spots from glassware, delivering more powerful cleaning performance than ever before. Whirlpool Corporation, which acquired Maytag brand in 2006, is the first in the industry to launch a steam option in dishwashers. The new SteamClean option further enhances the proven performance and powerful components already found in Maytag brand dishwashers and reduces pre-washing and re-washing. “Maytag brand dishwashers with the SteamClean option provide high-quality, dependable cleaning for those consumers who find themselves re-washing or polishing spots from glassware,” said Audrey-Reed Granger, director of public relations for Maytag brand. According to a national survey Maytag conducted to learn more about dishwashing habits, most people still scrape or rinse their dishes before putting them in the dishwasher (1). More than half the respondents said they worry that their current dishwasher won’t get dishes clean enough. Of those who end up re-washing dishes, the top five reasons are to remove “film” residue on glassware; spots on glasses, silverware and plates; hard water deposits; un-removed food soil and re-deposited food soil. Removing the Residue The new SteamClean option adds 24 minutes to the end of the wash process. During that time, dishes and glassware are inundated with high-temperature steam. The SteamClean option ends with a 154-degree-Fahrenheit rinse to get the last bits of grubbiness off the dishes. By combining the most powerful motor (2), the finest filtration (3), the most active spray jets of any other brand dishwasher (3) and the new SteamClean option — Maytag brand dishwashers eliminate the chore of pre-washing dishes and the frustration of food residue. Dependable Innovations Maytag brand dishwashers are built with proven innovations including the Jetclean(R) Power Module, a 1/3-HP motor that creates high water pressure, achieving outstanding cleaning results. Other features include Micro-Fine Plus Filtration, which captures particles as tiny as poppy seeds and coffee grounds; and heavy-duty DuraGuard(R) Nylon Racks, which protect dishes and glassware from scratches and damage while resisting rust. Also, each load can be customized with an upper rack that can be adjusted or completely removed for washing oversized items in the lower rack. The ENERGY STAR(R) qualified dishwashers use less water and save energy, for lower utility bills.
