- Assists Howard Johnson Inn to Go Green With Energy Savings - FLUSHING, NY, February 24, 2012 – Helios Energy Systems recently completed a significant solar energy system installation project for the Howard Johnson Inn in Saugerties, NY as part of the hotel’s energy efficiency upgrade. The two-story, 84-unit hotel now boasts a 25-kW solar energy system that will generate electricity for the facility, reducing its overall electricity costs and dependence on the regional utility company. Helios Energy Systems, a subsidiary of fenestration manufacturer Crystal Window & Door Systems, worked with the hotel owner to coordinate the assessment, design, equipment and installer selection for a suitable photovoltaic (PV) system to meet the building’s energy needs. The Howard Johnson Inn project involved the installation of 104 solar PV panels and associated electrical hardware on the roof of the hotel to generate 25 kilowatts of electricity. The installed solar PV system at the Howard Johnson Inn has an expected payback period of less than five (5) years and will save the facility several thousand dollars annually in reduced electricity costs. Through a combination of New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) incentives, Federal alternative energy tax credits, and special depreciation allowances, most of the cost of the installed solar energy system was covered.
