  • Properties that include green space and common areas for people to interact in are more beautiful, livable, and desirable. However, attracting people also means taking into consideration car parking. Parking, while a necessity, is not the optimal use of land in any project. Architects and developers often have to compromise their designs or reduce the amount of revenue-generating space to accommodate the required parking space. In many cases, space is at a premium, and the project cannot go forward unless an architect can somehow “create space” to account for the needed parking density. A compact automated parking system is the solution to minimize the impact of parking. It creates more space that can benefit the property as a whole and increase the return on investment (ROI) for your clients.

  • Knowing the importance of preserving existing buildings and material, as explored in “Re-Solution Part I: A Carbon Case for Building and Material Re-use” this course will examine which strategies are best for different structures and situations. We will explore different [a host] of scenarios and case studies, with an eye towards the potential for improvement across the board. Carbon (dioxide) is a hot topic these days and will be a companion of sorts, though we will be sure to include H20 (oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen) since all of these work interdependently in buildings, colluding as an all-too-often overlooked enemy of sustainability: moisture damage. If a building leaks, it is not sustainable. Here we will brush with a broader stroke, emphasizing the need for good design and detailing, while exploring examples of successful wall and roof assemblies. In “Re-solutions III: Facilitating Architectural Re-use and Wiser Wood in New Construction,” we will hone in on specific factors which can help hedge successes and minimize pitfalls in implementing reuse strategies.

  • Have you wondered what sustainability looks like in a manufacturing company or what happens to create the transparency documents you need for green building certification? Manufacturing companies are seeing an increased demand for product transparency and are beginning to understand that transparency provides internal and external benefits. Transparency contributes to Design for Environment – the sustainable design program for product development. The data gathered through the DfE process is used to build both material health disclosures and environmental product declarations and is valuable in many ways. This presentation explains what sustainability and Design for Environment are, how transparency documents are created and contribute to green building certification, and why investing in sustainability can bolster a business’s bottom line by creating internal process and operational efficiencies that can be reflected in transparency documents.
